ASICS, Weapon of Choice for @one_man_army.07

If you’re a sneaker aficionado and a runners/trainers fan, particularly on the ASICS brand– your Instagram could use the feeds from this guy, @one_man_army.07 from Singapore.

Joe, literally, is the only person shooting all these stunning photos that showcase the colours and depth of the Asics brand, specifically the Gel Lyte III silhouette.

ASICS, a company that originated from war-torn Japan in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, who started a company producing shoes for school children, with his comrade in arms, Kohei Hori. The maxim of the two former soldiers were "a healthy soul in a healthy body," whose acronym ASICS, stands in Latin, Anima Sana.

Anima Sana (ASICS) became the motivating force that made the brand produce some of the best running shoes, ranked among the top performance footwear in the market.

Runner collectors around the globe know Joe for his heavy ASICS collection

Joe, whose day job is a fitness instructor, has about 70 pairs of sneakers in his collection. He admits that it’s already down-sized! Ninety percent (90%) of his collection are ASICS, preferably rare and limited editions.

Various Asics collaborations, which he considers as his “Grails”

I started collecting sneakers because I find the sneaker culture very interesting. The thrill of hunting down a pair, and of course, it makes me feel good wearing a pair of vintage, rare kicks.”

His most-prized possession is the ’07 Patta x Asics Gel Lyte III. Leading Dutch streetwear shop, Patta is known for exciting collaborations with well-known brands. The ’07 Patta x Asics Gel Lyte III features an unorthodox colorway and elements based on Amsterdam’s Coat of Arms (red, black, and three Saint Andrew’s Crosses), mixed with Patta green.

But the most challenging to acquire was his '08 Colette x LaMJC x Asics Gel Lyte III "Sold Out".  It took him 3 years to hunt down a pair. Released in 2008, it pays homage to running shoes from the late 80’s and early 90’s.

“I really look into the history, colourway, quality of materials,  memorable collabs & rarity of a release, before I even decided that a pair is worth buying.  I’m not an investor, I’m just a hobbyist.”

Like any sneakerhead, for Joe, the hunt is never ending….

“I’m looking out for a pair of Ronnie Fieg x Nice Kicks 1.0. If you know anyone, anywhere, ready to part with theirs, I’m willing and able!”

Patta, Ronnie Fieg, Slamjam, Zillion. What more can you ask for?
